A Quick Reminder of Why Clothing Can Be Art

Mary Katrantzou has only been out of fashion school for 2 years. Her Spring 2011 line is nothing short of inspired.

Also, can someone please feed the models?

An Ode to the Mustache

I heard a rumor that people don't kill people, mustaches kill people. I call bullshit. If one thing's going to save the world, it is the mustache.

I'm Just Mad About Saffron

It might be a little last season but that never hurt nobody. Recently I have become pretty infatuated with mustard yellow clothing. I think its a great fall transition color as it's still sunny but a bit darker than the bright colors of summer. Paired with a smidge or red lipstick and some brown Oxford lace-ups and you've got yourself a look.

Endless Summer

The end of September felt like the end of July- I even saw an ice cream truck! After adjusting my wardrobe and accepting sweat as a constant and unavoidable companion, I really enjoyed the sunshine this weekend. Some highlights of these last few days: yoga on the cusp of a forest, eating berries, seeing old friends from my Oaxaca program, Ben's Chilli Bowl, Eastern Market Fall Street Fair, a killer sunset on the mall, National Museum of American Indian dance festival, David Bazan at the Black Cat.

Architecture Crush

Never before has Andy Samberg's seminal masterpiece "I'm on a boat" filled me with so much yearning. Because the only thing better than being on a boat with T. Pain is chillin' in a house boat on Lake Union. Also reason infinity why I love Seattle.

A Good Day for Balloons

If I were mayor, I'd invite everyone to have free boat trips on the river and free balloon rides over the city. I'd let the elderly in residential homes wander free. -Jane Birkin

Saturday Night Fever...no seriously

Still sick and staying in on a Saturday night. I've currently got a fever and this time it's not for more cow bell, Justin Bieber, or John Travolta...it's for pretty bows that make any item look like a present ready to be unwrapped.

Early Fall Nostalgia

Maybe its the Seattle in me, but there's nothing I like more than a light drizzle of rain on an early autumn day. I'm currently wearing my flannel from the thrift store and sitting in bed with a cold, watching the rain on my window. Somehow even the runny nose and sore throat feel really fitting. I've been trying to hold on to summer for as long as I can, and while I don't doubt DC has at least a few more glorious days of sun, today has made me excited for the coming season.

Busy Tuesdays

Between school and work I'm busy for 12 hours straight each Tuesday, so I don't really have time to make food. These pictures bring fast food to a whole new level. For the record, I think this is absurd. I did, however, have the epiphany last night that hamburgers actually epitimize couture as they are often custom made to suit the buyer's exact tastes.

Monday Obsession (plus a short rhyme about the season and an even shorter explanation of Danish hipsters)

It's not quite summer but it's not quite fall. The leaves are turning orange but the sun is still my shawl. I'm no longer swimming in my own sticky sweat but I don't consider frost bite a realistic threat. We're somewhere in between seasons and I'm relishing every minute of it. =)
Similarly these pants are somewhere in between too loose and too tight, too dressy and too casual. They're perfect for the time of year when shorts don't cut it but heavy fabrics are unnecessary. So perfect, in fact, that I recently bought a second pair in a different color.
While the fit of the pants is very relaxed, the ankles are slightly tapered, giving the illusion of a straight up and down figure on all body types.
Roll them up to the ankle and wear with a fitted long sleeve shirt and black flats for a gamine/pixie look or with a shirt-dress for an eastern inspired, harem pant feel. Wear a bandana as a scarf and tuck the jean version of these pants into your socks and kicks for, as my Norwegian friend put it, a "Danish boy" look (Scandinavia's interpretation of the hipster, which essentially fuses bike practicalities with fashion). They're comfy enough to sleep in but can be dressed up enough for a more formal gathering. Did I mention they're on sale?

Breakfast in Bed

It's raining outside and I should be doing homework but having a lazy breakfast in bed is better for my soul.
